About the Commission
for Suicide Prevention
The Commission for the Implementation of Public Policy on Suicide Prevention is created under article 3 of Law 227 of August 12, 1999as amended, known as the "Law for the Implementation of Public Policy on Suicide Prevention" with the goal of preventing suicidal behavior in Puerto Rico.
We develop and establish suicide prevention strategies.
We collaborate with multiple sectors of society,
in order to raise awareness.
We sensitively train the population about suicide and how to prevent it.

Who are we?
All members and designated representatives meet monthly to work on planning strategies and activities focused on suicide prevention.
The Commission also has a team of specialized professionals in the field of public health and mental health, in charge of developing the goals in accordance with the Strategic Plan. Annually, the Commission submits a progress and achievements report to the attention of the Governor and the Legislative Assembly.
